Heathrow Special Needs Farm is a small charity offering a wide range of activities for all children and adults affected by special needs. There are many different activities that are carried out at the farm on a daily basis and the clients are encouraged to be involved with as many as possible including grooming, feeding, and exercising the animals, gardening and planting.
We rely solely on our own fundraising and the generosity of local people, local businesses and grant applications for our income.
We are registered with the Riding for the Disabled Association and many of the children and adults use this facility. We have 2 ponies and 2 horses all of which, in some form or other, are involved in this activity.Several of our young children and adults really benefit from their weekly rides but if they are not keen on riding there is always help required with the grooming of the mini-shetland, donkeys, rabbits or goats or maybe some gardening in the specially laid out vegetable plot.
Many of the adult groups that visit us also help with the cleaning and feeding of the animals and also have a good laugh when they asked to “poo-pick” the paddocks!
A job that has to be done but the owners of the local allotments really appreciate the hard work done by the groups and the bags are soon gone from the front gates!
